A multidisciplinary built environment consultancy delivering integrated planning and development solutions across South Africa, is currently seeking a Professional Town Planner (Pr. Plan) to join their team in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
This role is suited to a registered professional who is technically strong, commercially aware, and capable of independently managing planning processes in complex regulatory environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving development approvals, managing applications, and contributing to spatial planning initiatives—particularly within housing and land development programmes.
Responsibilities
- Manage and prepare a wide range of statutory planning applications from inception through to approval (rezoning, consent use, subdivision, consolidation)
- Handle lodgement and processing of municipal planning applications
- Engage with municipal officials, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary professional teams
- Provide strategic planning input into development feasibility and project structuring
- Compile high-quality planning reports and supporting documentation
- Monitor regulatory processes and proactively address delays, risks, or objections
- Contribute to Spatial Development Frameworks (SDFs), precinct plans, and local area plans
- Support coordination across engineering, environmental, and architectural disciplines
- Assist in policy-aligned development proposals and spatial planning initiatives
Requirements
- Registered as a Professional Planner (Pr. Plan) with SACPLAN for a minimum of 2 years
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in town and regional planning
- Relevant qualification (BTRP / BSc / BPlan or higher)
- Proven experience in development applications and municipal processes
- Working knowledge of SDFs, IDPs, precinct and local area planning
- Experience in housing developments, informal settlement upgrading, or title deed programmes (advantageous)
- Strong understanding of provincial and municipal planning legislation
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
