Job Description
A well-established engineering consultancy specializing in large-scale civil infrastructure projects, is currently seeking a Senior Resident Engineer – Roadworks to join their site team in Durban.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to take a leading role in the delivery of a major national road upgrade project, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and successful project execution.
Responsibilities
- Act as the Engineer’s Representative on site for a multidisciplinary National Road upgrade project, ensuring full compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards
- Oversee, coordinate, and manage the site supervision team on behalf of the Engineer
- Ensure all project components receive adequate site inspections, quality assurance checks, and progress monitoring, while proactively identifying risks or potential delays
- Manage contractors and subcontractors to ensure work is completed according to approved timelines, budgets, and specifications
- Ensure adherence to the Quality Management System and approved quantity measurement systems as required by the Engineer
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and problem-solving support to the project team
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, designs, and specifications to ensure accurate implementation on site
- Maintain effective communication with clients, engineers, contractors, and regulatory authorities
- Prepare and submit progress reports, quality control documentation, and detailed site records
Requirements
- ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer (PrEng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (PrTechEng) – essential
- SACPCMP registration as a PrCPM advantageous
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in road reconstruction and rehabilitation projects
- Proven experience on large multidisciplinary SANRAL or municipal road projects
- Strong knowledge of SANRAL design compliance standards
- In-depth understanding of COLTO/COTO specifications and Bill of Quantities
- Solid experience in pavement rehabilitation, bridge and drainage construction, traffic accommodation, and ancillary roadworks
- Experience with continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) advantageous
- Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid driver’s licence – essential
